Historical Note:
The Two Cent Piece was introduced during the American Civil War and was the first coin to bear “IN GOD WE TRUST.” Though once practical, the denomination fell out of favor by the 1870s and was officially discontinued after 1873. The 1868 issue came near the end of the series, with only 2.9 million coins struck — a sharp decline from the early years.
Designed by James B. Longacre, the Two Cent Piece is both a symbol of national resilience and a collector favorite for its uniqueness and historical value.
