Historical Note:
The Buffalo Nickel, struck from 1913 to 1938, is one of the most iconic U.S. coin designs of the 20th century. In 1936, the San Francisco Mint produced over 14 million nickels, but varieties such as the FS-501 S/S repunched mintmark remain much scarcer. These repunched mintmarks were the result of the “S” being punched more than once into the die, leaving a visible doubling effect. Certified Mint State examples like this MS63 piece are sought after by both Buffalo Nickel specialists and variety collectors.
